Steve is a native of Chicago who studied guitar with Mike Conforti and Edward Meyers. He has been a working guitarist, acoustic and electric bassist, and vocalist for over 35 years. He has performed with numerous local and touring groups while a resident in Chicago, Lexington (KY), Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. More recently, Steve joined the Kalamazoo music scene where he has performed with the John Chamberlin Trio, Pieces of Dreams, the Unleashed Band, the Velvelettes and the Keith Hall trio.

Steve is currently the guitarist, vocalist and music arranger for the Lana Hawkins Jazz Quartet. Steve appears on Lana’s recent CD, ‘Beyond the Rainbow.’

Steve specializes in classic, jazz vocal standards from the 30’ through 60’s, especially those of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Sam Cooke. You will also hear fresh renditions of tunes from Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, the Beatles and classic Motown artists. He accompanies his singing with jazz chords on an archtop jazz guitar. Major musical influences include guitarists George Benson and Wes Montgomery, bassists Ray Brown and Christian McBride and the incredible New Orleans music scene. Steve’s goal is to play songs most people recognize and to have people leave his performances feeling better than when they arrived.
