Proprietary Red Blends
Kathryn Kennedy Lateral, Saratoga, '04
California Appellation54% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot.
The 2004 is the most impressive Lateral in the last decade. It’s sure to be a fan favorite. In keeping with the character of the warm weather vintage, 2004 Lateral is ripe and forward.
Aged for 22 months in 40% new oak, including 25% French oak, Lateral carries a level of polish rarely found in it’s price range. It’s ready to drink now, but has a weight worthy of comparison to blends costing much more. Lateral serves perfectly for customers looking for a luxury wine, without breaking their budget.

Craig's Comments
According to Amazing Grapes:Lateral is inspired by the famous wines of the St. Emilion district of Bordeaux. The blending of Cabernet Franc and Merlot is the cornerstone of this model. Another key to Lateral’s consistent quality is the use of multiple vineyards from more than one region. Select growers from the cooler coastal valleys are chosen with primary consideration for the flavor their grapes can add. Wine makers Marty Mathis and Chris Condos have been carefully assembling the Lateral blend for over eight vintages. The 2004 Lateral is an easy to like wine ready to drink now and sure to please.
