Craig's Comments
This is perhaps the smallest winery in Spain. It was founded by Gerard Batllevell, a young Catalan who came back to Priorato to reclaim the old vines of his family. The bodega, located in Porrera, is a 200 year old building, passed down from his mother's family. In the first vintage, 1999, he used grapes harvested from small parcels near the towns of Bellmunt, Porrera, and Gratallops where he was able to find old vines of Garnacha and Cariena. Gerard hopes to continue his work to search out the best Garnacha and Cariena old vines that produce less than 500 grs per vine and produce extraordinary wines from them.
This is an amazing wine, and a great value on our wine list. Normal retail is $60 for this one, if you can find it.
