Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes, `89
Château Lafaurie Peyraguey 1989Lafaurie-Peyraguey is currently one of the top first growths in Sauternes, with a really fantastic run of success in good years going back to at least 1979. These are wines of great structure – sweet, of course, but with the acidity to back it up and allow them to develop gracefully with long periods of bottle aging.
"The 1989 is an excellent, possibly outstanding wine made in a more restrained and less viscous style than the 1990 and 1988. The 1989 possesses a lively aromatic profile consisting of honeyed tropical fruits with a touch of a fresh Amontillado sherry added for complexity. Full-bodied, with good acidity, less evidence of botrytis than I would have expected, and excellent, possibly outstanding extract, it reveals a more monolithic, oaky personality, but these wines often take 8-10 years to reveal their true characters. There is good depth and richness in the finish, and the wine is long." Source : Robert Parker
